A multi-site hospitality operator was relying on a legacy POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) line to support alarm communications at one of its properties. As telecommunications providers continue retiring copper infrastructure, the organization faced increasing risk from aging communications technology, including potential service disruptions, reduced reliability, and diminishing carrier support for critical life-safety systems. The customer needed a more resilient, future-ready solution that would maintain dependable alarm communications while avoiding the operational risks associated with POTS line retirement.  

The Solution

Everon conducted a communications pathway assessment and identified an opportunity to replace the property's legacy POTS connection with a cellular monitoring solution. The upgrade critically modernized alarm communications, helping ensure critical systems could continue to transmit signals reliably despite the ongoing retirement of copper networks. By transitioning to cellular monitoring, the customer gained a more secure and sustainable communications pathway aligned with current industry best practices.

Results & Impact

The project delivered an estimated annual ROI of approximately $9,000 to the customer while improving the reliability of critical alarm communications. Beyond the immediate savings, Everon's consultative approach helped the customer proactively mitigate the risks associated with the nationwide retirement of POTS lines and develop a broader strategy for modernizing life-safety communications across the property. The engagement has since expanded to include discussions around sprinkler, backflow, and elevator monitoring, demonstrating how a single infrastructure upgrade evolved into a long-term partnership focused on resilience, compliance, and operational continuity.
